God is Jehovah-jireh, The Lord Who Provides My Every Need
January 10 – Today meditate on: God is Jehovah-jireh, The Lord Who Provides My Every Need
Lost Everything
Habakkuk 3:17-18, “Though the fig tree does not blossom, and there be no fruit on the vines; [though] the product of the olive fail, and the fields yield no food; though the flock be cut off from the fold, and there be no cattle in the stalls; Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation!” (Romans 8:37)
“Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation!” What a tremendous statement this is. When it seems we have lost everything, that we are stripped down to the bare minimum, when life seems to close in on us, when troubles come in like a flood, this verse can help us focus our eyes once again on our Redeemer, our Deliverer, our Provider, our Shelter from the storms of life, our Hiding Place, our Strengthener, our Standby. Nothing on earth of worldly possessions can begin to match, nor take the place of, a deep intimate relationship with Almighty God! Job said, “Yet though He slay me I will trust in the Lord God.” The devil would delight to see all Christians six feet under the ground, or six feet under their problems and therefore ineffective for God, but “I read the back of the Book and we win,” the song says.
Isaiah 65:13, “…I tell you that those who worship and obey Me will have plenty to eat and drink…They will be happy…” vs. 14, “They will sing for joy.”
Vs. 16, “The troubles of the past will be gone and forgotten.” (NS)
Vs. 23, “The work they do will be successful…I will bless them and their descendants for all time to come. Even before they finish praying to me, I will answer their prayers.” (NS)
