God Commands Me to Be Confident and Have Courage in Him

February 23 – Today meditate on: God Commands Me to Be Confident and Have Courage in Him

Joshua 1:1-9, Be strong [confident], and of good courage, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land, which I swore to their fathers to give them.”

Joshua 1:1-9 is one of my favorite sections of Scripture. “Be strong and of a good courage,” a great passage to read when we don’t feel strong or courageous. God has commanded us to be strong and of good courage. If God commanded it then He will supply what we need to accomplish it. Commands are commands, not suggestions. He doesn’t leave us alone to fend for ourselves. We are His children and He loves us with the most incredible love (whether we feel it or not – we walk by faith not by how we feel).

Song: “O be strong and take courage. Never fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord will go before you, and His love will light the way…Have not I commanded you to be strong and courageous.” Where we are weak God can be strong. That’s what God is looking for. People who realize they have no strength of their own and will totally rely upon Him to enable them to live a life of godliness.

We must stand against discouragement, disappointment, etc., bind it and tell it to go in the name of Jesus; the devil has to flee in the name of Jesus.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5, “…we are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” “Be strong in the Lord—be empowered thorough your union with Him; draw your strength from Him—that strength which His [boundless] might provides.” Every day cast down all imaginations and reasoning to the obedience of Christ Jesus. Be a winner, not a loser. (NS)
